The TinTown Community has been featured in the CVC along with our map and list of wonderful businesses.

"Tin Town was the idea of developer and contractor Tom Larsen, who bought the 6.5-acre plot of land in 1990 with a vision “to create a place where people could work where they live.” It’s not a new concept, Larsen says. “I had travelled a lot, in Asia, in Japan, [where] this way of living is very common. I took a lot of photos in these places and thought about how I could create a little village.”

Although the name Tin Town now seems inevitable, Tom’s former partner, Heather Currie, says it was originally going to be named “Rosewall” for the rosa rugosa shrubs she planted throughout the neighbourhood. (This explains why the street is named Rosewall Crescent.) It was a visiting family member of a couple living in one of units who first named the spot “Tin Town” in about 1994, and the name has stuck."
